In Alberta, the Wildland-Urban Interface - where human development meets natural forested areas - zone accounts for approximately 60% of the province’s wildfire risk. Communities located within the WUI are especially vulnerable to wildfire due to the close proximity of homes, infrastructure, and flammable vegetation. Proactive wildfire planning, including risk assessments and FireSmart strategies, is essential for reducing risk and improving resilience in these high-exposure areas.
